We operate our own school meals service, employing the staff directly, ordering good quality food and cooking it freshly on the school premises. We also export meals to another school in the area.
School meals meet current Government guidelines. We operate a cafeteria system of dining, each class going into the hall in turn, and there is always a choice of meal, including vegetarian, each day. There is also a fresh salad bar. The current price of a school meal is £2.40 per day, including a dessert and a drink, which is excellent value.
Please send your child’s dinner money on Mondays or on the day if your child has an occasional school meal. It is most helpful if you send the dinner money in an envelope, on which is written your child’s name, class and the amount of money enclosed. If you are sending a cheque for dinner money, please make it payable to “THE HARMONY TRUST”. You do not need to “sign up” for school meals – your child can have one occasionally, or just one or two days a week if that suits you. No notice needs to be given. If you would like to sample a school meal, please contact the school office – there is a charge of £2.75 for an adult meal, and parents are welcome to join us.
If debts are incurred, the school budget has to pay for them. This means that money which should be spent on the children’s education has to be used to pay for debts incurred by parents. The school budget cannot support this debt.
Children will not be provided with a school dinner unless it is paid for, or unless they are entitled to free school meals. Children in families receiving income support benefit are entitled to free school meals. Please apply if you think you may be eligible as this can affect our funding within school. Forms are available from the school office.
We allow children to bring packed lunches to school for their mid-day meal if parents so wish. We ask that only box drinks or plastic bottles should be part of the packed lunch because of supervision and storage problems and because of the potential dangers of some containers. A drink of water is provided for every child who has a packed lunch and does not bring a drink.
We have a healthy eating policy at school. The children can buy healthy option snacks and bottled water at morning break. Typical prices are: 30p for a bottle of water; 25p for an apple or a box of raisins, etc. Fruit varies according to season and availability. All of the money raised in this way is spent directly on the children. The children may bring their own mid morning snack of fruit, or vegetables. Sweets, crisps, biscuits and chocolate are not permitted.
