Design and Technology
The ACE curriculum through Design Technology
“Design is not just what something looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
Steve Jobs.
At Cavendish Close Junior Academy, the study of Design and Technology allows our children to be innovators, creating products linked to a wide range of topics and disciplines.
During KS2, pupils will develop important skills in cooking and nutrition, textiles and both mechanical and electrical systems.
Through exciting and imagination-capturing lessons, pupils work to fulfil a design brief. Working hard to produce functional, user centric products that meet a need and purpose.
Pupils at Cavendish Close delight in experiencing the design process. They use research to discover existing products, working collaboratively to identify areas of development. Then they generate designs and visually communicate their own ideas, before practicing skills and creating prototypes. Pupils gain a vast knowledge of design and manufacturing, studying specific designers with links to each project, thus understanding the importance of evaluating their products and adapting their designs to make improvements.
By the end of KS2, pupils will leave Cavendish Close as innovative, confident and functional designers, with the practical skills to equip them to face an evolving technological world.
Through all of these, our children are able to become ACE designers
