In Year 5 we have been up to lots of exciting things! Have a look at what we have been up to this half term!

Space Sculptures: 

This half term we have been exploring Sculpture in our Art lessons. To link with our science topic of Space, we have explored the world of Pandora through our English lessons and Art lessons. We explored the use of Armatures, Moulding, Sculpting and different textures using Air Dry Clay.

Prime VR: 

On Monday 14th February we were lucky enough to have a visit from Prime VR, we got to use Virtual Reality Headsets to explore our solar system. We explored the different planets and learnt lots of interesting facts to help us with our Science work. 

Performance Poetry :

We used the book 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers to inspire our Performance Poetry. We also enjoyed using the green screen to make our backgrounds look more interesting and enhance our performance. We thought alot about Oracy and intonation when performing and even added movements to our poems! Have a look at some of our work below...

Lunar New Year - Willow Pattern Plates:

To mark the beginning of Lunar New Year 2022 we explored the fable of Two Doves, which inspired the Willow Plate pattern. We then worked hard to create our own Willow Pattern plates in the style of Thomas Minton. We also discussed the Chinese Zodiac and discovered which Zodiac animal is our Ben Ming Nian. It was intersting to see that our Ben Ming's are the Rabbit or the Dragon. Miss Leeson's is the Tiger (which is also the Ben Ming for 2022!) and Miss Peat's is the Ox.
